WEEKEND PASTORAL LETTER  1 November 2020

Dear Brethren,

MEDITATION

that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.

Titus 2:4-5

OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION

b) It may be seen as a “natural ministry”

  1. Admonishment to younger women

a) Guidance

b) Encouragement

  1. Good advice

a) To love their husbands

b) To love their children

c) To be discreet (well-behaved)

d) Chaste (pure)

These are good things to teach younger women indeed!

  1. That the word of God may not be blasphemed

a) The word of God and its place in our life

i) Central role

ii) Contents to be understood

iii) Commandments to be obeyed

b) If the word of God is not practised

ii) The church could be disgraced

iii) The word of God can be spoken against (blasphemed)

APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY

  1. The teaching ministry

a) It could be formal

b) It could be informal

  1. The importance of this ministry

a) It is vital that believers be well taught

b) Women must also be well-taught

a) Girls did not go to school

b) They lacked instruction

c) Many were ignorant

d) This problem had to be addressed

This was not a good thing for Christian women. Schools were not open to girls then. But they must be taught. Older and godly women ought to take up this challenge to teach.

Prayerfully,

Pastor Charles Tan
